Mind meld wrath of the khan4/30/2023 ![]() ![]() McCoy’s severe mental distress has to be one of the best things about this film. It’s really touching and also brings a sense of urgency and flying under the radar to the film. They all put their careers on the line to get Spock back, and also help McCoy who is in severe mental distress. Even though “the answer is no” they’re “going anyway” of course. Genesis has become a controversy, since they weren’t really supposed to detonate it yet, so Kirk is forbidden to go back to get Spock. Genesis is proving to be a bit faulty though, apparently David cut some corners during development and now the planet is destroying itself.Īfter an appeal from Sarek (Spock’s father, played by Mark Leonard), Kirk and his crew set out to find Spock’s body and reunite it with his mind. In the middle of all this, a villain emerges in the form of Captain Kruge (Christopher Lloyd), a Klingon commander who wants Genesis for himself, not to create, but to destroy. It seems the regeneration of the planet has also regenerated Spock, but his mind is with McCoy so it’s just his body down there. David (Merritt Butrick) and Saavik (Robin Curtis) are down on the planet investigating life form readings from, you guessed it, Spock’s tomb. Meanwhile, another ship, Grissom, is investigating the Genesis planet. McCoy (as Spock) begs Jim to bring him back to Vulcan, where he can undergo a process that will bring him back to life. He seems to be suffering from a mind meld, and Spock transferred his mind and spirit to McCoy before he died. Everyone is understandably upset over what happened, and this is only augmented when Chekov (Walter Koenig) picks up a life form reading in Spock’s quarters which turns out to be McCoy (DeForest Kelley). Kirk (William Shatner) and The Enterprise are coming back to Earth after the death of Spock (Leonard Nimoy). Khan might be just a slight bit better, I know I’ve seen it way more times anyway and I must have had a reason for doing that, but really they are very comparable in terms of quality. While there are some aspects of Khan that are better, there are also some of Spock that are also really good. This is true in terms of quality as well as chronology. ![]() The Search for Spock picks up right where Wrath of Khan left off. ![]()
